James Acquilano ’23 (Viticulture Certi cate), the owner of Acquilano Wine Cellars, has opened a wine bar on South Main Street in Canandaigua. Linda L. Gross ’23 (Nursing) received the Hospital Nurse of Distinction award in the Rising Star category from UR Medicine ompson Health’s nursing leadership team during National Nurses Week. Drew Bateman ’24 (Liberal Arts and Sciences) served as the 2023-24 Student Corporation president and was recognized at commencement as a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Terrance DominguezHover ’24 (Graphic Design), the 2023-24 Student Veterans Organization president, was recognized at commencement as a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Jacob Panek ’24 (Law Enforcement) recently completed Basic School for Police O cers with the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy, earning a law enforcement certi cate from FLCC. He joined the Newark Police Department with his brother, Jared. Miller ’24 (New Media) received the Tom Hope Media Scholar Award from the Rochester Association for Film Arts and Sciences (RAFAS). e Hope Scholar Program annually awards stipends to select media students to support their transition into the media profession. Richard Larkin, retired associate professor, passed away on April 8, 2024, at age 61. Rich earned his bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and his master’s from SUNY Brockport. Rich taught Hotel and Resort Management classes in the Business Department at FLCC from 1988 to 2018. In addition to his teaching career, Rich was passionate about volleyball. Having played during high school, he also coached and served as a Volleyball Faculty Fellow for FLCC to help players work through academic challenges. Rich was known for his sense of humor as he emceed FLCC events. He played in the bands Weekender and Unaccounted 4 with great friends for 22 years. He also served as a captain for Captain Gray’s Boat Tours on Canandaigua Lake. Barbara Chappell ’81, a retired FLCC professor, passed away on March 1, 2024, at age 73. Barb attended Community College of the Finger Lakes, Roberts Wesleyan College and Nazareth University. She earned her master’s degree in social work from St. John Fisher College. Barb spent over three decades teaching human services classes at the College and was o en noted for her warmth by alumni and colleagues. She was promoted to full professor in 2015 and retired in 2018. While at FLCC, she also served on the United Way Steering Committee, the Employee Engagement Committee, and other committees.
