THELAKER | 21 Andrew Mavromatis ’17 (Viticulture and Wine Technology) became the vineyard manager at Cayuse Vineyards in Walla Walla, Wash., in February 2022. He previously worked for the vineyard management company Results Partners in southern Oregon. Lewis Pettit ’19 (Liberal Arts, General Studies) joined the Cuba Police Force a er completing the Alfred State College Police Academy. Emily White ’19 (Fine Arts), ’21 (Criminal Justice) is currently working in patient access at the Geneva General Hospital emergency room and will transfer to patient access representative 2, working accounts for upcoming surgical procedures. the 20s John Giardini ’22 (Fish and Wildlife) transferred to SUNY Cobleskill. Tamra Nwodu Irby ’22 (Hotel and Resort Management) transferred to SUNY Delhi for the bachelor’s program in hotel and restaurant management. Alexander Elderbroom ’22 (Game Programming and Design) is currently attending Paul Smith’s College for a bachelor’s in natural resource conservation and management with an anticipated graduation in 2024. He is working in telecommunications, installing equipment at businesses, universities, and large corporations. Misty Hill ’22 (Childhood Education) is beginning her bachelor’s degree in early education at Roberts Wesleyan University while teaching universal pre-kindergarten at the Keuka Lake School for 16 preschoolers. Carrie Natale Phelps ’22 (Fine Arts) is continuing her education at Empire State College in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in art. Jordi M. Smith ’22 (Childhood Education) transferred to SUNY Geneseo to pursue a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She is also substitute teaching at a local elementary school. Angelica (Tito) Lucas ’22 (Communications) got married Aug. 18, 2022, and is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree in public relations at SUNY Oswego. In Memoriam John “Jack” Riley, who retired as assistant professor of mechanical technology in 2022, passed away on Dec. 29, 2022, at age 71. Jack was born in Vermont, then attended Hudson Valley Community College and Oswego State University. In his senior year, Jack met Laurie Hugenbruch, and they wed in 1974. e couple had two children, Jack and Laurie. Jack studied engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology, culminating in a master’s in systems engineering. He was a founding member of the local chapter of INCOSE – International Council on Systems Engineering – and was a key part of coordinating its 2005 International Symposium in Rochester. A er a career in the private sector, he became an instructor at FLCC in August 2015 and coordinated the mechanical technology program. Jack served on the strategic plan committee in 2018 and taught middle schoolers engineering principles at summer camps at the FLCC Victor Campus Center for several years. He retired in August 2022 but stayed on as an adjunct instructor through the fall. Colleagues and former students remembered him for his wealth of knowledge, kindness and devotion to his family. A Jack Riley Memorial Fund has been established at FLCC to support the purchase of equipment for the lab at the Victor center.
